Private lending is built on relationships. A lender needs more than a source of capital: the lending process also draws on brokers, originators, legal and tax professionals, title specialists, servicers, insurers and technology providers. The quality of those connections shapes how a business learns, evaluates opportunities and manages risk.
When a lending business looks beyond its home market, familiar assumptions deserve a second look. A term may carry a different meaning. A process may involve different professionals. Licensing, documentation, insurance and enforcement questions may depend on the location, activity or transaction. Recognizing those differences is an essential part of asking the right questions.
The Cross-Border Private Lenders Association was created to bring the Canadian and American private lending communities into the same conversation. Its purpose is practical: connect industry participants, make educational resources easier to find and provide a setting for discussions about the work of private lending across markets.
CBPLA’s programming includes educational discussions, technology demonstrations, regulatory briefings and focused jurisdiction conversations. The CBPLA Knowledge Bank provides general educational material and issue-spotting resources. The opt-in directory within the member portal gives active members a way to learn about other participants and request a connection while respecting their privacy choices.
Our publications and media extend those conversations. The Cross-Border Brief brings monthly updates to subscribers. Originate Report is planned for deeper quarterly analysis. Deal Flow Beyond Borders and Cross-Border in Five will provide interviews and concise explanations as their content becomes available.
The goal is not to replace professional judgment or advice on an individual matter. It is to help people understand the questions, terminology and relationships that matter before taking their next step. Membership does not include legal representation, a license or a promise of financing or referrals.
Whether you are a lender, broker, capital provider or specialized professional, CBPLA offers a place to learn about the wider community and participate in it. Explore the membership options, subscribe to The Cross-Border Brief or contact us to discuss educational programming and member participation.
